01. Introduction

In the business world recruitment and selection would simply be the process of finding and attracting applicants to fulfill a vacant position and then choosing the right applicant to the particular job.

Success of a company depends on its employees. Therefore when a right employee chosen for the company it will reduce any losses for any organization. Recruitment and selection help organization to go through that process.

What is Recruitment?

Recruitment is the process of attracting prospective employees and stimulating them for applying job in an organization. Simply its the activity that links the employees and the job seekers. Jovanovic (2004) said recruitment is a process of attracting a pool of high quality applicants so as to select the best among them. For this reason, top performing companies devoted considerable resources and energy and to creating high quality selection systems.

Specific tasks involved in the process of recruitment include:

  • Analyzing job requirements
  • Advertising the vacancy
  • Attracting to candidates to apply for the job
  • Managing response
  • Scrutinizing applications
  • Shortlisting candidates

What is Selections?

Selection is the process of identifying an individual from a pool of job applicants with the requisite qualifications and competencies to fill jobs in the organization. Selection is much more than just choosing the best candidate. Its is an attempt to strike a happy balance between what the applicant can and wants to do and what the organization requires. This procedure begins after recruitments and partitions the competitors in two sections the individuals who will be offered work and those won't be. (Anwar & Surarchith, 2015).

Some selection activities are as follows:

  • Screening
  • Eliminating Unsuitable Candidates
  • Conducting an examination
  • Interviews
  • Checking References
  • Medical tests

Recruitment and Selection have probably the most benefited from the advent of technological solutions during the last few decades. Studies have explored the role of e-hr appeared early in the 2000s (Karakanian, 2000; Stanton & Coovert, 2004) predicting the beneficial impact of technology, across the different HR functions.

The financial industry has emerged as an important place of recruitment and selection processes observation, because financial work entails complex operations that require specific knowledge. Financial service workers are highly rewarded in monetary terms, so the companies also attracts several candidates.

  1. Yes Dasun,
thought to add something to your blog with my views, Recruitment is basically the process of hunting for suitable candidates and pursuing them to apply for the said position. On the other hand, selection refers to the process of choosing the right one for the vacant position in the company. There is a thin line between both of them. if any organization manage to choose the right candidate, he or she will be able to add so much value to the organization. This is the reason why there is a separate department dedicated to recruiting candidates. Company having chance to scrutinize his or her profile and also ask the right questions in order to see if there is any chance that he or she might not necessarily join their company.
In this case any institution or company must pay attention to both stages of the hiring process. But the problem is that both these words are used as a replacement for each other, thus leading to confusion.

  3. Agreed, The selection process always follows the recruitment process. If there are drawbacks in recruitment process of the organization, it will negatively affect to the selection of right candidates (Tripathi & Srivastava 2017).

  4. Recruitment refers to a process of simulating applicants for a vacant job position and finding qualified applicants for the job and Selection refers to the process of shortlisting the applicants and selecting the best applicants who are suitable for that job position. Recruiting the right person makes supreme importance for the continuation of the success of an organization. An effective recruitment and selection policy not only fulfills the requirements of a job but also ensures that an organization will continue to maintain its commitment to providing equal opportunity to employees.
